Career Information – Sky Livingston are having a Technology Apprenticeship Insight Afternoon 6 February 2018 2 pm – 4 pm Tech Taster afternoon at Sky is your opportunity, if you are 16-24 year old, to find out about all the cool things that happen in our Technology departments. You don’t have to be a tech wiz, they are looking for enthusiasm and a willingness to learn. Why not go along to find out more, you may not have thought about a career in Technology, come along to find out all the cool things they do.

Introduction to Sky
Tech Taster Activities-Getting to experiment with some technologies, hear from existing Apprentices and Apprentice managers
Tour of the Sky Campus
No previous experience in needed for the Technology roles.

Scottish Schools Aquathlon Championships – This competition involves a race in which competitors swim and then run. There are Individual and mixed team relay aquathlons for teams of 4.
S1/2 = 300m swim, 2km run
S3/4 = 400m swim, 3km run
S5/6 = 500m swim, 4km run
The Mixed Team Relay: 200m swim and 1km run per athlete in a girl, boy, girl, boy format.
Any pupil interested in competing in this even at Stirling University in April should speak to Mr May for more details.

Dance Club – As we progress towards the show can I please make you aware of the below meeting- full attendance is required.
Wednesday Break @ Small Gym- All pupils involved in dance (or who would like to be!) there will be a short meeting to discuss the plan in the run up to the show. Full attendance please.
Can I also remind you all of the importance of being at all rehearsals especially as we are now getting close to show week!

Try Boxing taster Session- Any S1 – S6 living in the Ratho area interested in attending a one off Try Boxing session on Monday 22nd January at Ratho Community Centre from 6 – 7pm should sign up at Ratho Library. This session will be led by Rab McEwen who is Head Coach at Clovenstone Boxing Club. It is hoped that if there is enough interest more sessions will be organised.

Senior Prelims: Can all senior pupils please ensure they arrive to the Drama Studio/exam venue 10 minutes before their exam starts. The day before the each exam allocated seat numbers will be posted in the concourse/reception and outside the Drama Studio – you need to know this number before you enter the room. Please remember to bring pens/pencils and any other equipment required and as with final exams all mobile devices and smart watches must remain in your bag at the front to the room.

Attention – TO ALL S6’s – Third Louise Duncan Bursary announced
Balerno Parish Church is seeking applications for the second award of the Louise Duncan Busary. This scheme was launched in 2016 to commemorate the life and work of former minister Reverend Louise Duncan, and offers a bursary of £500 to a young person, living in or near Balerno, to help them to meet the cost of travel outwith Scotland to take part in voluntary work for the benefit of disadvantaged communities. The inaugural award was made last year to Annabelle MacDonald, who spent two months teaching young children in Cambodia, between leaving Balerno High School and beginning her course at the Glasgow School of Art and last year the Bursary was awarded to Callum MacDonald and Rachel Hastie.
Applications are now open for the 2018 Bursary, with a deadline of February 23rd. More details of the conditions of the award and the application procedure are available from the Church website (http://www.balernochurch.org.uk/), where an application form can be downloaded.
