Use of social spaces at lunchtime:  We are aware inside social areas are very busy at lunchtimes so we are zoning certain areas for specific year groups.

As from this week to eat and socialise:

  • S1/2 should only use the Riverside
  • S3/4/5 should only use the concourse
  • S6 should only use their social area

S3 Lawyers in Schools: If you are interested in the Lawyers in Schools Program please give your name to Ms Ranger or your tutor today.

There will be a meeting at break time on Thursday for all interested pupils in the LRC.

Minitrials: All pupils involved in minitrials must attend the after school session today to meet the defence lawyer and prepare for the case. Meet in F50 at 3.30pm.

Italy Trip: There has been a huge response for the Italy trip and it is now full. Please come to a short meeting today at break time in F50 to find out if you have secured a place on the trip and pick up a letter.

S1-S6 Choir: There will be a choir rehearsal today at lunchtime in F09. New members are welcome.

S1 Pupils:  who wish to help out in HFT with a cookery demonstration on the night of the P7 open evening from 5-7pm on Thursday 3rd of October please attend a short meeting today (Thursday 19th September)  in G47 (Miss Duncan’s Classroom) at break time to sign up. We only have 10 spaces so this will be done on a first come first serve basis.

S1 Girls hockey meeting: There is a meeting today at break in the Games Hall for all S1 hockey girls. Any new players are very welcome.

Hockey Club: There will be a meeting every Friday at break in the Games Hall, all players should attend. You will find out about the latest games and social events. New members are very welcome.

Gardening Club: This week at gardening club we will be propagating kalanchoe plantlets, an unusual plant from Madagascar. There should be enough to take one home and continue to grow it there! We will also be repotting some houseplants and continuing tidying up and designing the garden in the courtyard area between the science labs.

Jeans for Genes day: Balerno High School will be joining thousands of schools to raise money for the charity “Genetic Disorders UK” through Jeans for Genes day on Friday 20th September. Pupils may wear jeans instead of trousers however they will still be expected to wear shirt, tie and blazer. If you would like to take part please bring a £1 donation to KAT on Friday.

There will also be iron-on patches and pins for sale in the concourse at breaktime from Tuesday 17th- Friday 20th to raise money for this amazing cause that can provide specialist help and equipment for people with a variety of genetic disorders.

U14 Rugby: Any players keen to take part in a series of events at Broughton High School on Friday afternoons over the next couple of months should speak to Mr May asap. The first event is this Friday (6th September) but players will need to make their own way to and from the event. Fergus Scott (Currie RFC Development Officer) will look after the team during this week’s event.

Edinburgh & Midlothian Schools Swimming Championships: This competition takes place at Ainslie Park Leisure Centre on Sunday 17th November. If you would like to sign up to compete please speak to Mr May with details of your event/events and times before Wednesday 25th September. Any questions please speak to Mr May.
