S1 Cockburn Epic Day – Bonaly Outdoor Centre:

All Cockburn S1 pupil are going to Bonaly on Monday 16th May.

You should go to tutor on Monday morning and then meet you group in the concourse at the start of period 1.

Tutors will let you know which group you are in on Monday morning.

Top tips from Bavelaw pupils who went this week:

  • Bring a refillable water bottle
  • Bring a rucksack for your stuff
  • Bring a waterproof jacket (and trousers if you have your own)
  • A packed lunch and plenty of snacks to last the day
  • Change of joggers in case you get wet
  • Layers e.g. fleece, jumper in case it gets cold
  • Pairs of spare socks in case your feet get week
  • Trainers you don’t mind getting dirty
  • Any inhalers or medicines you normally carry yourself

Scottish Schools Secondary Track & Field Athletics Championships:  This event takes place on Friday 10th and Saturday 11th June at Grangemouth Stadium.  If you would like to enter please see Mr Russell (Active Schools) in PE base for an entry pack.  Please note there are strict qualifying standards for this event, and you will need to meet the standards to be able to enter.  Closing date for entries is Friday 13th May.

HFT Kitchen Garden Club: HFT are creating a kitchen garden to grow and cook vegetables and herbs – and some fruit too. If you would like to be involved, then please come along to G35 on Wednesday (today) breaktime. We look forward to seeing you then. 

Young Writers competition: Congratulations to Hamish Grant 1M2, Lexi Henderson 1M2, Morven Cooper 1B1, and Lucas McLaren Hankin 2M1 on their entries for the Young Writers competition being selected for publication. There were over 10,000 entries from all over the country, so this is an amazing effort, well done! Please see Ms Brown in F32 for information if you have not already done so.

Project Dandelion – Wednesday lunchtime: All welcome to come to GFB to give us a hand planting potatoes – and see developments in the hydroponic cube, where seeds are sprouting without soil!!

Project Dandelion: We are embarking on an exciting project to grow tatties and other veg for a harvest festival in September.

Come along to the GFB today at lunchtime to grow potatoes and other vegetables. We are also going to grow vegetables using a hi-tec hydroponic growing cube (growing without soil). Come along to find out more and get involved.

We will be growing the potatoes in bags for life, if you have any spare to donate or bring along please do! To find out more speak to Mr Beaven, Mrs Williamson or Miss Beattie.
