School Buses: The school buses will continue to be parked on Bavelaw road at the end of the school day, due to the ongoing road works at the front of the school. Please leave by the rear of the school and exit through to Bavelaw road until further notice. Those pupils in one of the minibuses or taxis should leave by the front of the school to be picked up as normal.

Eco Project – Todays class for litter picking is 3C2 with Mr Ross.

Use of social spaces at lunchtime: We are aware inside social areas are very busy at lunchtimes so we are zoning certain areas for specific year groups.

As from this week to eat and socialise:

  • S1/2 should only use the Riverside
  • S3/4/5 should only use the concourse
  • S6 should only use their social area

 

Hockey Club: There will be a meeting every Friday at break in the Games Hall, all players should attend. You will find out about the latest games and social events. New members are very welcome.

Edinburgh & Midlothian Schools Swimming Championships: This competition takes place at Ainslie Park Leisure Centre on Sunday 17th November. If you would like to sign up to compete please speak to Mr May with details of your event/events and times before Wednesday 25th September. Any questions please speak to Mr May.

Girls Rugby: There is an Under 16 game this Friday (13th September) at 3.45pm against Falkirk at St Augustine’s High School.

Training is on this week from 5.30 – 6.15pm on the 3G.

2020 Watersports Trip: If you are keen to hear more information about going on this years school watersports trip please come to a short meeting on Thursday breaktime in the Games Hall. The trip runs in the last week of school and is open to all year groups. So bring a few friends and come and hear what you could be doing next year.

S6 MUN Denmark: Those who are signed up on this trip should attend a meeting in F10 at break time today.

U14 Rugby: Any players keen to take part in a series of events at Broughton High School on Friday afternoons over the next couple of months should speak to Mr May asap. The first event is this Friday (6th September) but players will need to make their own way to and from the event. Fergus Scott (Currie RFC Development Officer) will look after the team during this week’s event.

LRC Lunchtimes – Due to the number of pupils in the LRC at lunchtime, from next week each year group will have access on different days. This includes the whole of the LRC area – with no exceptions.

Gardening club: Do you have green fingers, want to grow plants or just spend lunch time doing some gardening outside? Gardening club is starting on Tuesday lunchtimes. First plan is to tidy up the courtyard area between the science labs. Other plans include planting seeds, growing veg, making use of the greenhouse and having fun while improving the environment of the school. Meet at G33 (Goldfish bowl) every Tuesday lunchtime – all welcome!

UCAS – Early applicants- If you plan to study medicine, veterinary medicine, dentistry or at Oxford or Cambridge, you need to go through an accelerated process to meet your application deadline of 8th October. You must attend a meeting during Key Adult time on Friday 23rd August in the LRC to begin this process.

S2 Boys Football – The first training session for S2 boys will be on Monday 26th August from 3.45 – 4.45pm. All players who are keen to represent the school team should try to attend this session but if you are unable to make it please speak to Mr May. First game is scheduled for Saturday 31st August.

Loch Lomond Fieldtrip: Can all National 5 and Higher Geographers confirm their place on this trip by making the £10 payment on parent pay. The trip will run on Tuesday 17th September. Any issues please come and speak to Mr. Hamilton or Mrs. Harvey-Jamieson.

S4 Opportunity – My World of Work School Ambassadors: An exciting opportunity is available for any S4 pupil who would like to become a My World of Work School Ambassador. This is an excellent role which involves the following:

• Attending a full-day training course in September,
• Promoting My World of Work to S1-3 pupils,
• Telling parents and carers about My World of Work at parents’ evenings,
• Visiting the primary schools to help P7s register for My World of Work.

This role will allow you to build your CV as well as build your confidence and other important skills. If you are interested, please see Mr Ferguson in the Guidance Base by Monday 26th August.

GSA (Gender Sexuality Alliance) – On every Monday lunch in F43 (Mrs Loy’s room). Today we’ll be kicking back off with a visit from STASH who will be talking about LGBT topics and queer sexual health.

Zoology Club – Zoology Club is every Tuesday lunchtime in Miss Muir’s room (G31). Zoology Club is involves learning about life on Earth, caring for class animals, having fun and making a difference. All welcome

Dance Club: Dance Club will be back up and running as of next week. This is a great opportunity to keep healthy, meet new people and enjoy a variety of styles of dance. Anyone who is intending to come to any of the dance classes on offer this year should attend a short meeting on Friday at break in the small gym in PE. Lessons from Auschwitz – Holocaust Educational Trust – An opportunity for two senior students to take part in the above project, which includes hearing a talk from a Holocaust Survivor and a day visit to Auschwitz-Birkenau, Poland. This is a fully funded opportunity to take part in an excellent project. You must be in S5-S6, over 16 and have a current valid passport. Italy trip – Please can all pupils going on the Italy trip come to Mrs. Harvey-Jamieson’s rooms F50 on Tuesday break time to organise rooming at the hotel.

CAREER READY – Career Ready is an exciting opportunity for (new) S5 students to gain experience in the workplace and make some professional contacts.  It is a two year programme that you graduate from and receive a certificate.  There is a 4-week employment placement at the end of the first year.  I have asked guidance teachers for names of students that could benefit from this programme.   Please could you come to a short meeting with Miss Brownhill on Thursday lunchtime at 1.30pm in F08 (Music) to find out more about the programme.  However if your name is not on the list and you think you might be interested then please do come along!

CHALLENGE WEEK – AMELIE – If you are going to see ‘Amelie, the musical’ with Miss Brownhill and Mrs Anderson on Wednesday 26th June, please come and collect a letter about the trip asap.

If you missed your heat during PE due to absence or injury you can come along after school to get a time on Thursday 13th June from 3.45 – 4.30pm.

S6s are  welcome to come along on Tuesday 11th June to get a time for the 100m and/or 800m during period 5.

Relays will be on Friday 21st as well as the finals so start organising your teams in Tutor Time – the more teams you can get to compete then the more points your house will earn. Can anyone stop Malleny winning three in a row?! Any questions please speak to the PE department.
