US weather officials say an ‘outbreak of tornadoes’ unleashed by a powerful storm system crossing the southeast on Sunday the 3rd of March.
Tornadoes are terrifying funnel-shaped storms. They are one of the most dangerous weather types. They can easily snatch up heavy objects such as cars and can tear roofs from buildings.
Around 23 people have died and people remain missing.
Weather officials say it has been the deadliest tornado in nearly six years.
Emergency workers have joined search and rescue efforts and are trying hard to rescue those in danger. They have also worked through the night pulling dead and injured people from the wreckage.
Families have lost their homes and their belongings.
