A Message from Gillian Ross our SDS Careers Advisor
My name is Gillian Ross and I provide career support from Skills Development Scotland to pupils from Balerno High School along with my colleagues Linda Dalziel and Kirsty Dickson. I hope you and your families are keeping safe and well during this pandemic.
During this time, like pupils, Career Advisers are unable to attend school, but we continue working from home, for us this is likely to be until at least October.
With this in mind Skills Development Scotland still want to support pupils to develop their Career Management Skills to help them make career decisions that are right for them, as they move through school and eventually leave.
I may be contacting your young person in the senior part of the school between now and October (including the summer holiday) to discuss their plans for the year ahead although you or your young person can also contact us at a time that suits you by calling our local Edinburgh office on 0131 718 2040.
Thank you for your time and I look forward to working with your young person in the year ahead,
Please see below this week’s Edinburgh Guarantee Opportunities Bulletin which amalgamates the former Edinburgh Guarantee Schools Bulletin and the Activity Agreements Youth Opportunities Bulletin and is split into the following sections:
· Modern Apprenticeships
· Graduate Apprenticeships
· Professional Qualifications
· Programmes, Courses and Training.
At the beginning of the bulletin, there is a list of current vacancies to make it easier for you to search. There is a link to our Jobs Board where you can sign up for job alerts. The bulletin is also available on the Parents and Teachers page on the Edinburgh Guarantee website.
It features a variety of entry level jobs and Modern Apprenticeships, some of which require very few qualifications and are suitable for those who are about to leave or have left school. There are also Graduate Apprenticeships and other alternatives to university.
The Programmes, Courses and Training section contains a range of options available to young people who have left school and are not yet in employment, further education or training.
