Skills Development Scotland can offer free and impartial advice on education, training, careers and jobs.

Bulletin – Thursday 19th April 2018

No Girls Football this Term! – Unfortunately the girls football will not take place this term. Training will resume as normal after the summer!

S2 Pupils – There is a Storyteller event organised for you on Friday morning during your Period 4 English lesson. You should report to class as normal to be registered, then you will head down to the Drama Studio with your class teacher.

SQA Exam Assemblies – There are SQA Exam Assemblies in the Drama Studio on Monday at the following times:
S4 – 10:50
S5 – 12:10
S6 – 10:15

Ratho Bus Pupils: Please attend F10 during morning break to collect your bus pass. Failure to collect your bus pass may result in the driver refusing to allow you on the bus.

Balerno Fairtrade Morning – Any pupils that would be able to help out at the event at Balerno Parish Church Halls on Saturday 21 April, 10am to 12 noon, please see Mr McCallum as soon as is possible.

Extra-Curricular Clubs in the sports hall this Term! – Please note that due to the sports hall being used for exams there will be NO badminton, basketball or netball clubs this term! Clubs will restart after the summer. If you have any questions please speak to Lindsay Campbell (Active Schools Coordinator) via the PE base on Mondays or Tuesdays AM.

STEM Inspire Courses: 3-day residential engineering workshops for S4 pupils

The Engineering Development Trust are delighted to invite S4 pupils to apply for an
exciting three-day residential course focused on developing broad based engineering skills.
We have a limited number of places on offer to S4 pupils with a passion for Engineering;
particularly those considering further education in Engineering.

Pupils are asked to apply by 24th April if they wish to reserve a place.

Young people taking part in Inspire will spend 3 days at a leading UK university gaining some great experiences, including:

• Introduction to Engineering and/ or Science through project work to give a flavour of what to expect at University first year undergraduate level
• Taking part in hands-on STEM projects, lectures and workshops
• Learning how to manage a project, develop research techniques, problem solving and write reports
• Hearing about university life from lecturers, admissions tutors and post-grad students
• Meeting engineers, scientists, researchers and professionals who’ll explain their own achievements
• Learning to be confident and enthusiastic about next level study in STEM subjects

Disaster Film Club – will resume this Thursday (29th March) at 13.05 in F47.
Please note that after the Easter holidays the club will continue every Thursday but F47 will then become a no-phone zone. Pupils are using this club to come and play games and use social media on their phones which it is not designed for. Pupils using mobiles will be asked to leave and not return until they can survive a lunchtime without a phone. This will allow others to be able to watch the film. Thank you.

Calling all football goalies – Anyone interested in attending a goalkeeper coaching camp in July should see Mr May for more details.

RBS Apprenticeship Insight Day – Want to better understand what it is like to be an apprentice and work for RBS? RBS are offering the opportunity to visit Gogarburn, the HQ of RBS, and take part in a range of informative and interactive activities that allow young people to better understand the roles available within RBS and entry routes to access them. Hairdressing Apprenticeship Opportunity – The DollsHouse Hairdressing Salon has an opening for a school leaver to do their apprenticeship level 1, 2 & 3 in Hairdressing. Spring Concert – Tickets will go on sale on Wednesday 21st March from the school office. Tickets are priced at £5.00. The concert is on Tuesday 27th March at 7.00pm.

Music Ensembles – Please check all rehearsal times for Guitar group, Wind Band and String Ensemble. Full attendance is required at each! Please see Mrs Anderson if you have any questions.

S1 Numeracy Treasure Hunt – Tomorrow is the last day for solutions to be submitted for the S1 Numeracy Treasure Hunt. Please hand your answer sheets in to Mrs. Timoney in the LRC.

To all current S5s – If you expressed an interest in taking Advanced Higher Geography next year you will be delighted to know that it is running in column B. This option suited all pupils who raised this. Please come and see me if you need to clarify anything or want to confirm that you are on the list.

If you expressed an interest in Higher Economics, please attend a brief meeting with me in F34 (Ms. Neale’s room) on Thursday at 8.30.

Teenage Booster – Immunisation details
The Community Vaccination Team will be in school tomorrow to administer the Teenage Booster (Diphtheria/Tetanus & Polio and Meningitis ACWY) to all S3 pupils and any S4-S6 pupils who have not been immunised. You will receive an appointment slips tomorrow morning, please ensure you come to the small gym at your allotted time.
Please wear a school shirt that has short sleeves or a T-shirt should be worn under your school shirt to ensure the vaccine can be administered easily.
